Google Meet Timetable & Demo Video (using the app)

Hi everyone,

Here is this week’s Google Meet timetable for whole class sessions.

In addition to whole class Google Meets some students may have smaller group sessions as well and may be asked to use the Google Meet app to enter their session. If you are asked to enter a special code or meeting name you may need to check in your emails for what the code is. This video may assist you with how to use the Google Meet app to do this ……

Google Meet Timetable

Google Meet Timetable

Hi everyone. With the first week of our home learning almost completed here is our Google Meet timetable for everyone to refer to for Week 2. Google Meet is our videoing platform for students to connect with their teachers and classmates.

Try to remember the following guidelines each time you participate in a Google Meet session …..

  1. Suitable clothing.
  2. Suitable backdrop. Open learning space (not in your bedroom) and ‘interruption free’ during the session.
  3. Be on time. Open up the Google Meet link and have everything ready 10 minutes beforehand.
  4. Microphone on mute. Turn this on red unless you are speaking.
  5. Keep our Digitech Rules eg. think before you post (or speak).

Please note that whilst we try to keep to these times as much as possible that our Google Meet timetable is subject to change. Any changes to the timetable will automatically update on this page once you have refreshed the blog page. This timetable can always be accessed via the Student Portal (just look under the Announcement section of this webpage).

Photos of our first day of Learning from Home

Hi everyone,

One day down without hopefully too many meltdowns or technical issues. Thankfully, we all survived and we lived to share the story. Thanks to all the families who shared their photos from during the day. If only we could have a similar document for how the parents looked at the end of the day. …..

Feel free to keep sending your photos in to me at smullavey@htws.catholic.edu.au and I will update this document as they come through.

Cheers and keep up the great work!

Home Learning is ‘up and running’

Home Learning is ‘up and running’

Hi everyone,

Welcome to term 2 – a completely new way of learning from outside the four walls of the school classroom. Today is a ‘settling in’ day like most of us would normally do for a new term. Our parents (who are also our first teachers) may need some guidance during the day as many of them have not been to primary school since the dinosaurs roamed the Earth (well maybe not that long).

Today, here is a simple activity for all parents to try to do sometime during today’s day of learning. I would like parents to take a picture of their child/ren completing some of their learning. It may be of them working at a desk, practising some meditation skills, watching a video that their teacher has shared with them or having a brain break doing one of Mrs. Harrison’s fantastic PE exercises.

I then would like parents to send this photo to their class teacher as a quick way of touching base with them. Class teachers may not necessarily reply to these emails as they will be teaching throughout the day but it is a nice way to show them that your child is engaged in our home learning program. I would love to put some of these photos onto the school blog as well so if you give permission for me to post a photo of your child/ren please CC me in on the email to the class teacher. My email address is smullavey@htws.catholic.edu.au

Please also note that the Prep to Year 2 online program will begin after the students have made their way through the pack that was provided at the end of last term.

Below is a list of all teaching staff’s email addresses for your reference.

Cheers and have a great day with your beautiful families.

Four Square Competition for the School of the Air

Four Square Competition for the School of the Air

On Thursday the 28th of November Ashley, Lara and Blake.D held a 4 square competition to raise money for the kids in the School of the Air. Ash wanted to do the fundraiser for the school of the air because there are lots of kids that are a part of the school but they don’t get to go to a physical school and experience all the fun things we get to do. Ash and Lara were the first people to do a fundraiser for the school of the air. The competition ended up raising $87 in total which is a lot of money that can be used to help buy new learning resources for these kids.

The final winners were Bradley 1st place, Macca 2nd place and Tej 3rd place. Spencer earned the MVP (Most Valuable Player during the competition and Cara got an award for Team player.

Well done to Ashley, Lara and Blake D for all of your hard work with organising this competition (even organising some trophies).

Swimming Program

Swimming Program

On Wednesday the 6th of November the students in Prep to Year 4 began travelling to Knox Leisureworks for our yearly swimming program. This program took place for 8 days which finished today. In the first week we did the lessons practising swimming strokes, floating and survival. On each Thursdays all student brought in their PJs. We had to do our swimming in these clothes as well as learning how to survive in the water if we were to fall in with our clothes on.

Today (Friday) is everyone’s favourite day because it is Fun Friday. We got to make whirlpools with the others in our group, did a water scribble and go on the water slide too. It was so much fun.

Overall, we had so much fun in the swimming program and will be sad not to do it next year when we are go into Year 5.

Year 1/2 Mission Prayer Service

Year 1/2 Mission Prayer Service

This afternoon, the Year 1’s and 2’s had a Prayer Service celebrating Mission month. Mission month celebrates being a community and doing good things together. Thank you to all the parents that came to celebrate with us, as well as all the students that did readings.

Minecraft Club

Minecraft Club

Every Friday students from Years 2 and 3 participate in HT’s Minecraft Club run by the DigiTech Leaders. We have been learning about the basics with using their Educational Minecraft accounts such as collecting resources, building and mining. Today all the students joined in the same world created by the DigiTech leaders and they searched for different resources. Everyone is having fun playing minecraft and we will continue playing it next term. We encourage the students to develop their skills further during the holidays when they use their accounts at home.

Here are a few photos of today’s session …….

Digitech Sessions (The Ozobots have landed at HT!!!)

Digitech Sessions (The Ozobots have landed at HT!!!)

Over the last few weeks the students in Digitech have been learning to code using our Ozobots. An Ozobot in a small robot the responds to different colours – mainly red, green, blue and black. When you draw these codes together in different sequences it can make the Ozobot move in different ways. Some of our favourite moves so far have been the Nitro boost (fast speed), tornado (spin around) and backwalk (go backwards) and pause 3 seconds.

Our latest task requires the students to make the Ozobot do a series of moves including right and left turns, change speeds and do a ‘cool’ move such as the backwalk. Another task required the students to complete a bowling challenge where the Ozobot needed to knock over some bowling pins. These challenges  certainly got our brains going.

Here are the students in action during our Ozobot sessions ….
