THEY NEED TO GUESS THE NUMBER OF PAGES IN THESE 5 BOOKS! THE CLOSEST GUESS TO THE ACTUAL AMOUNT WINS A $15 VOUCHER TO SPEND AT THE FAIR!

For this year’s book fair the Prep’s, Year One and Two students can participate in a colouring competition!
They can choose 1 of 4 pictures to colour in and there will be one winner chosen from each year level. Each winner will receive a $10 voucher to spend at the book fair!
Please put your name and year level on the entry. Only one entry is allowed per student. Entries need to be in by Thursday 3rd November, with winners announced on Friday 4th November. Parents look out for your child’s colouring page in their blue pouch!

On Monday 17th October, two teams of students from year 5/6 represented HT at softball in the Knox Division Championships at Gilbert Park. As you can imagine the competition was very strong when competing against all the other district winners but we held our own winning two of the three games that we played. Unfortunately, we just missed out on making it to the regional championships where just missed out on percentage and finishing third overall.
Overall, we all had lots of fun and represented HT with great pride and displayed great sportsmanship throughout the day. Thanks to Mr. D for helping to train us throughout the last couple of months and for helping us to participate in the day.
On Wednesday the 19th of October, two teams of 3/4 students were chosen to participate in the Regional All Star Hoop Time Championships at the State Basketball Centre. This was after our Future Star team also played in the Future Star Competition a week prior. Our All Star boys team won all their matches including the grand final against Monbulk Primary. Our All Star girls team also won all their games including a close win in the grand final against Scoresby Primary where they got the job done in the final few minutes. Our Future Star team also was successful in their grand final which is an amazing result for HT where our All Star Boys, Girls and Future Star teams made it through to the State Hoop Time Championships later on this term.
Well done to our 3/4 students and not only making it through to the State Championships but also using the TORCH values throughout the day as they represented HT. We can’t wait to hear what happens in a few weeks time.
This term the Prep students are learning about addition and subtraction. One of their main goals being to look at different combinations of numbers that add to 20 such as 10+10 and 5+5+10 and 11+9.
In addition, the Prep students have also been learning about 2D and 3D shapes as a separate topic in Maths.
Overall, the Preps have progressed so much in so many areas of Maths as you can see from their fantastic work below.
During week 3, the year 6’s were fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in a Metro transport incursion. Matt, a community education officer from Metro transport, talked to us about the different ways we can travel on PTV, (Public Transport Victoria) so that we have experience for next year when we go to high school. The year 6’s learnt how to use a MyKi, the rules of public transport and the safety precautions we should take to ensure we have the best experience each time we travel. At the end of our excursion we took a test to see how much we had learnt and got the best score out of any school that Matt had worked with (a whopping score of 1,201).
Overall, we learnt a lot from our excursion and we all feel confident that we will have no trouble taking public transport once we begin attending secondary school.
Thank you to Matt for providing this opportunity for the year 6 students to learn about different ways we can travel around our city.
Two weeks ago on a bright Monday morning (10th of October) our Preps, Grade 1’s and Grade 2’s had a special excursion to the Melbourne Zoo as part of their Science Inquiry topic. The journey was an exciting one for our junior students who were able to travel by bus with their friends for one of the first excursions many of them have ever had. They saw the big cats, elephants, snow leopards, hippos, monkeys, butterflies, all sorts of sea life and of course lots of Australian animals such as kangaroos and koalas. They also had a unique opportunity to get a close up learning experience at the educational centre. Despite all of this for many of the students their favourite part of the day was when they got to eat their food and play with their friends in some of the beautiful green areas of the Melbourne Zoo.
For many students this day could be the highlight of their time at school.
We would like to say a big thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers who assisted throughout the day and to the Prep to 2 teachers for helping to organise the day.

Last Friday (14 October), the year 5/6 students went on an excursion to Hampton Beach to learn about beach safety. We learnt what to do in a emergency (DRSABCD), how you should act at the beach and the rules you should follow at the beach. We also learnt some great beach games such as Giants Treasure and Capture the flag.
Overall, all the 5/6 students were thankful for the opportunity to participate in this day and it was a very fun and helpful for us.
Late in term 3 and early in term 4, the grade 6 students have been continuing to develop their STEM skills through participating in the Lego Engineers program. We have built made caterpillars, battle tanks, self flipping cars and a wind power plant. In addition, we have developed our coding skills by using the Wedo program on our Chromebooks to program the models to undertake different processes such as to spin faster, make a relevant sound and change colour.
Overall, our Year 6 students have thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Lego program and have learnt a lot of scientific skills and engineering knowledge that will hopefully help us with our learning as we move into secondary school.

October marks World Mission Month which celebrities the global work of the Church who support those in need around the world. As a Catholic school we are responding the call of Pope Francis, to be a witness of love in the world.
Mission in action is never confined to a single person or to the present moment, but extends through communities, across generations, and eternally.
The Year 5 students have spent time in class learning about mission.
The Catholic Mission agency contributes funding and provides project support to critical church-run initiatives in Africa, Asia, Oceania and South America, as well as remote dioceses within Australia.
After learning all about mission the students have planned and organised a fundraiser to acknowledge and support the work of Catholic Mission. The fundraiser encourages the students and our school community to think not only of what they will do to help, but why they will do it.
Our Year 5 students have demonstrated teamwork, fairness, compassion and effort when planning and preparing the fundraiser. There will be three activities which students can participate in. The activities are a “silly sock” design competition, a soccer goal shootout competition and of course wearing “Silly Socks“! All activities are happening on Friday 4th November.
During term 3 the students in the Year 3 classes participated in the Lego Engineering Program as part of our Digitech curriculum at HT. The program helps to develop the students’ skills and knowledge in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) whilst building a variety of models such as a catapult, racing car, pantograph and carousel. During these lessons we learn about some of the different forces that help these machines work and students work with a partner to follow a series of instructions in order to build the model. We also look for ways to innovate our designs to help them to go faster, safer or work with greater accuracy. In our final session we learnt to use the Wedo program to code our machines to do a series of moves including changing speeds, changing the colour of the LED lights and even changing direction.
Overall, the year 3 students learnt from participating in the Lego Engineering Program which will serve them well in their learning throughout the curriculum. We look forward to continuing this program with these students in years 4 and beyond.

At the end of last term (Thursday the 15th of September) Holy Trinity and St Mary’s was full of colour as everyone wore their chosen footy team colors. During the day there were lots of games, competitions, food and energy as everyone joined in the excitement of the AFL football finals.
In the afternoon we had a parade on the basketball court each where each team walked around and sang their club song.
It was a great way to complete a great term 3.
