School Athletics Day

On Tuesday 20 February the students from Grades 3 to 6 went to the Bill Sewart Athletics track in Burwood to participate in our school athletics day. The students participated in a range of athletics activities like high jump, long jump, triple jump, discus, shot put as well as the running events including 100m, 200m and 400m.

Everyone participated well in the different athletics events and the spirit shown throughout the day was excellent.

The overall spirit points for school athletics were:

Dominic – 3200 points

Bunurong – 3000 points

Mackay – 2900 points

The overall age championship winners for the day were:

Lola and Dallan (Year 3)

Peyton and Patrick (Year 4)

Cici and Owen V (Year 5)

June and William A (Year 6)

Dominic won overall for the day.

Overall, it was a great day for everyone.

A big thank you to all of our wonderful helpers and to Miss Humphris for all of her hard work in organizing the Athletics Day. Great job everyone!

Harmony Day

We are one but we are many……….

We celebrated Harmony Day dressed in Orange and in our cultural outfits. We investigated where our families come from around the world and listened to music from other cultures.

Staff managed to celebrate by having a feast of flavours from their own cultures for a delicious morning tea.

DISTRICT SWIMMING

On Friday the 23rd of February, twenty one students for years 3 to 6 were chosen to represent HT at Croydon Memorial Swimming Pool. The pool is an Olympic sized which means it is 50 metres long and at least 8 lanes wide.

HT had lots of successful swimmers that participated in a range of events including backstroke, freestyle, breaststroke and relay. Some of our swimmers did so well that they were chosen to participate at the next level of competition.

Overall, HT came 3rd but we were only a few points from first so it was a fantastic result. Most importantly all the students represented HT with great sportsmanship positively supporting all the students swimming even those that were not from our school.

One of our year 5 participants commented how he really liked being part of the day and gave it a rating of 10 out of 10.

First Friendship Groups

Every second Friday afternoon the students in our school gather together for Friendship Groups. Our Friendship Groups are formed from a mix of students in the different classes throughout the school. During Friendship Group activities we participate in a range of learning activities based around our TORCH values of Tolerance, Optimism, Respect, Confidence and Honesty. During our first Friendship Groups session we played the ‘ah umm’ game. If you can’t remember how to play this game then these are the rules:

1. You need to try not to say ‘uhh’ or ‘ahh’ or ‘umm’ .

2. You talk about a topic that you know something about for 30 seconds (eg. what you did on the holidays, what your favourite food is or your favourite restaurant, etc.)

3. This is the most important rule: show the TORCH values especially optimism when you lose or make a mistake.

Overall, the students really enjoy getting to work with students throughout the school that we don’t usually get to be with in our regular class groups.

Congratulations to Maya Kansakar 1/2 G whose artwork won an award at the CEM Visual Art Exhibition.

Maya’s artwork ‘Goodnight Owl’ won the NationalGallery of Victoria Award for Creativity – Primary

Maya completed this artwork last year in Foundation .

GARDEN CLUB

We have been very busy in the garden this term harvesting our tomatoes, corn and zucchinis.

HT’s Environment Leaders for 2024 are Parthvi and Alexandria. They have been a big help with watering, harvesting and organising all the children that come to the garden.

LIBRARY NEWS

HT’s Learning Leaders for this year are Alyssa and Charlize. They have been a terrific help when the library is open at recess.

Some of our students enjoyed reading in the library today (where it was lovely and cool).

In Italian Today

Year 1/2 Green learnt the days of the week in Italian today. They listened to a song and learnt the words and even performed it using egg shakers and rhythm sticks.
