Google Meet Timetable & Demo Video (using the app)

Hi everyone,

Here is this week’s Google Meet timetable for whole class sessions.

In addition to whole class Google Meets some students may have smaller group sessions as well and may be asked to use the Google Meet app to enter their session. If you are asked to enter a special code or meeting name you may need to check in your emails for what the code is. This video may assist you with how to use the Google Meet app to do this ……

Google Meet Timetable

Google Meet Timetable

Hi everyone. With the first week of our home learning almost completed here is our Google Meet timetable for everyone to refer to for Week 2. Google Meet is our videoing platform for students to connect with their teachers and classmates.

Try to remember the following guidelines each time you participate in a Google Meet session …..

  1. Suitable clothing.
  2. Suitable backdrop. Open learning space (not in your bedroom) and ‘interruption free’ during the session.
  3. Be on time. Open up the Google Meet link and have everything ready 10 minutes beforehand.
  4. Microphone on mute. Turn this on red unless you are speaking.
  5. Keep our Digitech Rules eg. think before you post (or speak).

Please note that whilst we try to keep to these times as much as possible that our Google Meet timetable is subject to change. Any changes to the timetable will automatically update on this page once you have refreshed the blog page. This timetable can always be accessed via the Student Portal (just look under the Announcement section of this webpage).

Photos of our first day of Learning from Home

Hi everyone,

One day down without hopefully too many meltdowns or technical issues. Thankfully, we all survived and we lived to share the story. Thanks to all the families who shared their photos from during the day. If only we could have a similar document for how the parents looked at the end of the day. …..

Feel free to keep sending your photos in to me at smullavey@htws.catholic.edu.au and I will update this document as they come through.

Cheers and keep up the great work!

Home Learning is ‘up and running’

Home Learning is ‘up and running’

Hi everyone,

Welcome to term 2 – a completely new way of learning from outside the four walls of the school classroom. Today is a ‘settling in’ day like most of us would normally do for a new term. Our parents (who are also our first teachers) may need some guidance during the day as many of them have not been to primary school since the dinosaurs roamed the Earth (well maybe not that long).

Today, here is a simple activity for all parents to try to do sometime during today’s day of learning. I would like parents to take a picture of their child/ren completing some of their learning. It may be of them working at a desk, practising some meditation skills, watching a video that their teacher has shared with them or having a brain break doing one of Mrs. Harrison’s fantastic PE exercises.

I then would like parents to send this photo to their class teacher as a quick way of touching base with them. Class teachers may not necessarily reply to these emails as they will be teaching throughout the day but it is a nice way to show them that your child is engaged in our home learning program. I would love to put some of these photos onto the school blog as well so if you give permission for me to post a photo of your child/ren please CC me in on the email to the class teacher. My email address is smullavey@htws.catholic.edu.au

Please also note that the Prep to Year 2 online program will begin after the students have made their way through the pack that was provided at the end of last term.

Below is a list of all teaching staff’s email addresses for your reference.

Cheers and have a great day with your beautiful families.

Classroom Helpers

Many thanks to the parents who attended the Classroom Helpers Information Session. If you have nominated a time that you are available to help in your child’s classroom, your child’s teacher will contact you to confirm if that time is an appropriate time for them.

Prep Reading Information Workshops

Thank you to the Prep parents who attended the Reading Information Session. You play a most important part in the development of your child’s reading. The time you share with your children, enjoying picture stories or hearing them read their first take home books is precious valuable time that can instil a love for reading and give them a positive start to their literacy learning journey. Please ensure you help them engage in the text and use the picture clues along with the text to help them read.

Our Amazing Preps

Swimming Program

Swimming Program

On Wednesday the 6th of November the students in Prep to Year 4 began travelling to Knox Leisureworks for our yearly swimming program. This program took place for 8 days which finished today. In the first week we did the lessons practising swimming strokes, floating and survival. On each Thursdays all student brought in their PJs. We had to do our swimming in these clothes as well as learning how to survive in the water if we were to fall in with our clothes on.

Today (Friday) is everyone’s favourite day because it is Fun Friday. We got to make whirlpools with the others in our group, did a water scribble and go on the water slide too. It was so much fun.

Overall, we had so much fun in the swimming program and will be sad not to do it next year when we are go into Year 5.

Prep 100 Day Celebration

Prep 100 Day Celebration

On Thursday 1st August our Prep students celebrated their first 100 days of school. The dressed up as something to do with the number 100. One example included dressing up as a grandpa or grandma with a knit sweater, cain and fake hair. Some kids dressed up by wearing 100 things like 100 dot or 100 batman logos. They wore capes, bling and all sorts of colours.

The Preps gathered in the Community Space for a parade and throughout the day they did activities based on the number 100.

Below is a few pictures of the day along with a slide show of what each student might look like if they were 100.

TORCH Bearers of Term 2

TORCH Bearers of Term 2

This afternoon at assembly our TORCH bearers of the term were awarded to one special person in each level who displays each of our TORCH values. Our TORCH values of tolerance (T), optimism (O), respect (R), confidence (C) and honesty (H) are at the heart of what we teach at Holy Trinity and provide our students with practical examples of how to live out of school motto of ‘Love One Another’.

Congratulations to Owen (Prep), Tyler (1/2), Olivia (3/4) and Anneliese (5/6) for being such fantastic recipients of the TORCH Bearers for term 2.

Prep Wildlife Incursion

Prep Wildlife Incursion

On Wednesday 15th of May our prep classes were lucky enough to have an incursion as part of their Inquiry topic about Life Cycles. Wildlife Xposure brought along a variety of animals including snakes, crocodiles and birds to teach the students about the wonderful world that we live in. The students got to examine their behaviour and some even go to touch the animals.

Overall the preps had a great time and learnt a lot about animals for their Inquiry topic.

Twilight Sports

Twilight Sports

Last Wednesday (13th of March) the students of Holy Trinity and St Mary’s participated in our annual Twilight Sports event. Our four houses Bunarong (Gold), Mackay (Blue), Mackillop (Green)  and Dominic (Red) all did a great job for the event. These houses were well led by ….. : Thomas and Niamh (Bunarong), Archie and Chloe (Mackay), Lachlan and Bella (Mackillop) and Nik and Caitlin (Dominic).

The evening began with our field house events where teams competed together to try to gain points for their team. We then went onto the Sprint events which were completed by the students in Prep to Year 2. We then had some relays and finished off the evening with the Fran Rascas races.

The house who ended up winning the Spirit Shield for Good Sportsmanship was Mackay.

The overall winning team for Twilight Sports was Bunarong so congrats to all the Gold team!

Here are some pictures from last Wednesday ……

Buddy Breakfast

Buddy Breakfast

On Friday the 1st of March the Prep students and their Year 6 buddy/ies (along with their families) gathered in the Community Space for Buddy Breakfast. This was a chance for the buddies and their families to get to know each other better. The Year 6’s also gave their Prep buddy/ies a special ‘buddy’ bear to symbolise our new friendship. We look forward to spending many happy times with our buddies throughout 2019.

Here is a few photos from our Buddy Breakfast last Friday …..

Gravity Fun in Prep L!

Gravity Fun in Prep L!

In Prep L we have been learning all about gravity. We have had fun exploring with different items in the classroom and seeing how long they take to reach the ground. Here are some of the students thinking around gravity –

‘Gravity is like a big magnet. It pulls us down so we don’t float away to space!’ (Emily)

‘Space does not have gravity because things float up there.’ (Pierre)

‘The more mass an object has, the quicker it will fall to the ground when we let it go!’ (Henry)

‘Gravity pulls everything down on earth.’ (Grace)

Our Preps are flying in Digitech

Our Preps are flying in Digitech

Our Prep students are working hard on their touch typing skills using Typing Tournament. This program teaches the students to use all of their fingers (on both hands) when using the keyboard. I would encourage all students to try to log into this program at the following site ….. https://goo.gl/vsdhsY

Here is a few more of our Prep students in action …..

Preps in Digitech

Preps in Digitech

In term 3 the Prep students are learning to log on using an individual username and password (instead of the generic one that they all used at the beginning of the year). This means that logging on takes a bit longer because each student is required to type in a few more letters but they can also get to use their own Google accounts a lot more.

One newer program that the Preps are beginning to use is called Typing Tournament which is an online program designed to develop touch typing skills. As part of this program the students complete a series of activities working towards completing a touch typing test. The program is very engaging and it tracks the students progress as their skills develop.

Discovery Centres in the Prep Level

Discovery Centres in the Prep Level

Today in Prep we had Discovery Centres! It is a relaxed environment where the students can experiment with their learning.

We had a variety of activities that students could choose from. Some of the activities included making and continuing patterns, practising sight words, recognising and making numbers and writing sentences. At the end, students got to share what they’d been learning about with the other Preps.

Discovery Centres is so much fun!
