The amazing artists at Holy Trinity have been working hard in the art room.

Grade One and Two artists looked at the wonderful contrasting effect of warm and cool colours  as they created Initial and Bird  artworks.

Grade Prep artists investigated mixing  Primary colours to make Secondary colours while creating beautiful flowers.

Grade Four artists made these beautiful textured posters featuring their names.

Grade Five artists created these fun heart posters after being inspired by the artwork of American Street Artist Chris Uphues

Grade Six artistss made a collaborative artwork to display in the mini space, Reach for the Stars, it looks incredible. Thank you to Katelyn, Yul, Levi and Amy for the wonderful stars in the display.

2019 is off to a colourful start. 🌈

Phil Kettle – Writing Workshops

Today our Year 1 to Year 6 students took part in Author Writing Workshops with Phil Kettle. Students enjoyed listening to Phil talk about his experiences as an author and how he has used these to write his series of books, such as Tool Cool and Boyz Rule. Phil also spoke  about the importance of the writing phase and shared planning ideas to develop a writing piece.  Phil was not only impressed with the questions students asked him during the session, but how respectful and responsive they were through the workshop. Everyone enjoyed the sessions and are looking forward to applying new learning in class.

Twilight Sports

Last Wednesday (13th of March) the students of Holy Trinity and St Mary’s participated in our annual Twilight Sports event. Our four houses Bunarong (Gold), Mackay (Blue), Mackillop (Green)  and Dominic (Red) all did a great job for the event. These houses were well led by ….. : Thomas and Niamh (Bunarong), Archie and Chloe (Mackay), Lachlan and Bella (Mackillop) and Nik and Caitlin (Dominic).

The evening began with our field house events where teams competed together to try to gain points for their team. We then went onto the Sprint events which were completed by the students in Prep to Year 2. We then had some relays and finished off the evening with the Fran Rascas races.

The house who ended up winning the Spirit Shield for Good Sportsmanship was Mackay.

The overall winning team for Twilight Sports was Bunarong so congrats to all the Gold team!

St Patrick’s Cathedral

On Friday the 15th of March the RE leaders of HT travelled to St Pat’s Cathedral in the city to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.  The six students arrived there on train and walked to the cathedral from Parliament station. Leading the mass was our Archbishop Peter. During the mass all the different schools that attended each carried a banner down the aisle. After the mass we walked to a nearby park where there were lots of activities for all of the schools to enjoy including some music performances by some of the high schools and some ball games like dodgeball and bowling. Afterwards, the HT students went back to the station travelled back to school. Overall, it was really interesting seeing so many students from the different catholic schools around Melbourne.

This year in Year 2, we have been lucky enough to take part in a Pen Pal program with two Year 2 classes from a school in Queensland. The students received the letters today and are very excited about writing and sending letters back and forth throughout the year! 

Year 3 Lego Sessions

In Year 3 we have been busy building lots of different lego designs in the Multi Purpose Room. Some of these models require a motor such as the racing car, laundry drier and motorcycle. Others such as the catapult, spinning top and sailboat did not require a motor. We have been learning about some of the different forces that help to make these lego models work such as momentum, kinetic energy and centrifugal force. The students are amazing in their interest in our Lego unit as well as the knowledge they bring to our discussions.

Mater Christi and St Joseph’s Excursion

On Thursday the Grade 4’s had the opportunity to visit Mater Christi and St Joseph’s to experience life in high school. During this time they visited different areas of the school, met some of the teachers and played games.

During the St Joseph’s visit the boys played drum pads, created art pieces and played 360 degree ball. At Mater Christi, the girls were involved in science experiments, a scavenger hunt and played noodle tag!

They all had a fantastic time!

On Thursday the 7th of March, the grade 3, 4, 5 and 6’s went to Ringwood Athletics Centre to participate in the track and field events. We did a lot of  rotation activities to score points for our house teams. Some of the events are running, long jump, high jump and discus.

Overall, it was a pretty fun day and everyone enjoyed completing the events at a real track.

Today is Ash Wednesday which is a special day marking the first day of Lent. During our Ash Wednesday Mass everyone had ashes placed on their forehead in the shape of a cross. Ashes are used because it is a symbol of new life just like new plants and grass grow after a bushfire.

Lent is a special season in the Church where we try to do more praying, fasting (giving up something we can live without such as chocolate or electronics) and almsgiving (giving some money to a charity such as Project Compassion). During Lent the colour purple is used in the Church. It also is a season that lasts for 40 days because Jesus survived in the desert for forty days with very little food or water. Many Christians also go without meat on Ash Wednesday and each Friday during the Lenten season. The end of Lent we celebrate Easter which is a time where we remember the Resurrection of Jesus.

On Friday the 1st of March the Prep students and their Year 6 buddy/ies (along with their families) gathered in the Community Space for Buddy Breakfast. This was a chance for the buddies and their families to get to know each other better. The Year 6’s also gave their Prep buddy/ies a special ‘buddy’ bear to symbolise our new friendship. We look forward to spending many happy times with our buddies throughout 2019.

Last Friday Holy Trinity competed against many other primary schools in the Knox area including St. Jude’s. St. Bernadette’s and Boronia K-12 at the District Swimming Carnival.

Each Tuesday the students in the swim team had to get up very early and go down to Knox Leisureworks pool for swimming practice.  It was hard work but last Friday we enjoyed the successes of our hard work because HT came first in the competition. This means that we have won the district swimming competition nine years in a row (even before I began school at HT). There is a group of boys and girls who will be going away for the next level of competition in the next couple of weeks.

After a really good night sleep amongst most campers we woke to a delicious breakfast including pancakes. We cleaned our rooms which took a very long time for some cabins …. not mentioning any names. We had one final play on the beach and had an early lunch so we could depart on time. After some final thank yous we left Waratah Bay at midday. We are expecting to be back at HT at around 3pm on the basketball court.

We have had an awesome camp but are looking forward to seeing our families + our comfortable beds.

Today we were on camp enjoying a long walk along the beach (we were told it was 6km altogether). Whilst we were there we spent some time in the rockpools exploring lots of the little sea creatures that live there. We also surfed and had a safety brief where we learned how to use the lifesaver tubes.

It was amazing how fun so many of the activity groups were. Most students really enjoyed the flying fish giant swing, the nitro crossing challenge (not with real nitro), the low ropes course, beach volleyball and the treasure island challenge.

We will always remember these moments but are also looking forward to coming back home soon to see our families.

We will send through one more blog post before we return back to HT tomorrow.

The festival is on the 2nd and 3rd of March and is a fun family day out. It is held at the Wally Tew reserve in Frrntree Gully🎊

Yesterday was an awesome day doing lots of fantastic activities.

Three groups got to go surfing and the other three groups did activities around the camp including rock climbing, obstacle course and giant swing.

I had never done surfing before and it was pretty hard to stand up on the board. Quite a few students stood up on the board but none of the teachers were that skillful.

Last night for dinner we had a lovely roast pork and lamb as well as crunchy potatoes. The pork was my favourite. We also had fruit salad and ice cream for dessert.

We also got to go for a night walk down to the beach where we used our torches to find soldier crabs. We learnt that they are unusual because they are one of the few crabs that walk forwards instead of sideways. We also roasted marshmallows by the campfire and lots of people had their marshmallows fall off their stick into the fire.

After a big day we all went to bed at about 10 pm.

Hi everyone.

We have arrived to a beautiful day and a lovely camp site.

Our journey was good particularly watching the movies on bus. We stopped off at Coal Creek for a break and bite to eat. On arriving at camp we had lunch, sorted out a cabin groups and organised our activity groups.

This afternoon we completing some activities including the giant swing, obstacle course and surfing.

We will send another post through later on to update everyone of our day.

The new art leaders have done an amazing job painting the banner for the 2019 Knox Festival. The festival is on March 2nd and 3rd at the Wally Tew Reserve in Ferntree Gully. It is a terrific fun family outing with lots of food, rides and entertainment. The banner will be on display and is part of a competition to win the most popular banner, people’s choice award. So go along with your family and vote for our wonderful banner 😃🌈

At recess and lunch there are so many activities we do at school such as forty 40, basketball, cricket, climbing on the monkey bars and what’s the time Mr. Wolf?

My friends and I like to play with our BeyBlades. This is what a beyblade and a riper looks like …..

When we put the beyblade on the riper and pull the string then the beyblade comes off and spins. When you battle with someone in an arena it sometimes bursts and comes apart. But don’t worry because you can put it back together afterwards.

We love playing beyblades each recess and lunch and so do many other students in the school.
