Cyber Safety ‘Mind maps’
During the past few Digitech sessions the students in Years 1 to 6 have been learning to use an online mind mapping program called Mindmup. Mind mapping is a visual way of setting out our learning where we put together similar ideas into groups much like we group our ideas into paragraphs or onto the same slide. Students enjoy the ability to use images to represent a phrase as well as to colour code the different topics that they use. Our Digitech mind maps demonstrated our cyber safety understanding that we have developed during remote learning.
I would like to say a massive THANK YOU to our wonderful parents who supported their children in learning to use this new program. I’m sure they learnt some new skills as well during our unit. This program will certainly be regularly used in classrooms in the years to come.
Here is a small representation of some of the impressive mind maps that have been created over the past few weeks.

SRC – New School Uniform
This term our SRC (Student Representative Council) have been regularly meeting to work through what our new school uniform might look like in 2022 and beyond.
Over the past couple of weeks we shared some of our wonderful ideas including labelling our designs.
Some of ideas included introducing a tie, having a hoodie and creating a uniform that can be worn by both girls and boys and having just one uniform that is a bit more ‘sporty’ and can be worn on both PE and non PE days.
We would love you to add your thoughts about the below designs into the comment section of this post.
Here are some of the designs that our SRCs came up with …..

First Eucharist 2021
Over the last couple weekends students from year 4 and a couple from grade 5 and 6 have celebrated their first Eucharist at St Jude’s Church. Eucharist is one of the three sacraments of initiation which are important steps in the journey to becoming a full member of the Catholic Church (Baptism and Confirmation are the other two sacraments of initiation). Eucharist is when you receive the bread (Body of Christ) from the priest reminding us of when Jesus shared the last supper with the Disciples. With such an important occasion it was natural that many students were nervous about receiving the host for the first time but were happy once they had the ceremony was completed.
Many students had their families come along to the First Eucharist Mass to support them during this very special event. Afterwards many families had a celebration to recognise this important occasion.
Here are a few photos from some of the recent first Eucharist masses.
Taster Day at Mater Christi
Yesterday (18.5.21) all the year 4 and 5 girls went to Mater Christi in Belgrave for a taster day. A taster day is when students from primary school visit a secondary school to have some kind of experience of what it is like to go to high school. Some of the activities we had a chance to try were: Science, Monopoly and Sport. Monopoly was a bit different from the board game because we got to explore the different parts of the school and answer questions about these places.
What we did:
- – First we entered Mater Christi
- – Next we played Monopoly and explored the school
- – After that we had recess
- – Then we had P.E. We played Popcorn and Golden child
- – After we had Science ( it was my favourite )
- Next we got show bags that had; crayons and pencils.
We are very thankful to Mater Christi for the chance to experience what it is like to go to secondary school.
Here are some pictures taken from Mater Christi …..
We had an amazing time at Mater Christi. It was a lot of fun to have experience of High School.
Taster Day at St. Josephs
Yesterday (18/5/21) the students in years four and five had a Taster Day at secondary school. A Taster Day is an opportunity when primary students can experience what it is like at high school, as they are choosing which high school to go to. The boys were lucky enough to go to St. Joseph’s in Ferntree Gully and had heaps of fun completing activities.
There were 4 different activities were drama, science, music and sport. My group got to do drama first and I was very excited when I won the first two rounds of the first game. Afterwards, my group did science and wow …… that explosion was huge!!!! We were amazed by what science could do.
We also go to experience what a recess is like by having snack and brain food.
We are all very thankful to St. Joseph’s for the chance to be part of the secondary school taster day.
Here are some photos from our day at St. Joseph’s ……
Year 3 and 5 Naplan
Last week the students in year 3 and 5 participated in Naplan beginning on the 11th of May and ending on 13th of May. Naplan stands for National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy is a combination of four tests ranging from language conventions to mathematics. Tuesday is the day when everyone did two tests (writing and language conventions which is testing our understanding of spelling, punctuation and grammar). On Wednesday the students participated in a reading test and on Thursday we did a numeracy test. The aim of Naplan is to help students to understand where they are up to with their learning and and where they need help. Sometimes students can get a bit ‘stressed out’ about Naplan but my advice to all people who are doing Naplan now or in the future is to not to get worried by the whole Naplan business. You can just remind yourself that Naplan is just like any other normal test we do in class. I also highly recommend that you don’t talk to your classmates during the tests as this may look like you are talking about the test questions.
After Naplan was completed we all felt much better and look forward to doing lots of other fun learning in class.
District Athletics
On Tuesday 27th April, a group of students from years 3 to 6 were chosen to represent Holy Trinity and St. Mary’s at the district athletics carnival. Our school competed against different schools in the Scoresby District at the Knox Athletics track.. Students were chosen to represent HT & St. Mary’s based on who came first or second during our school athletics day last term.
Some of the highlights of the district athletics competition were the performances of June (800m), Darcy (800m), Amelia F (1500m), Amelia W (shot put), Nathan (200m), Sunny (800m) with many, many more.
Amazingly, we had 17 students who came first or second in their selected events (A Division). These students qualified to compete at the next level where they will represent the Scoresby District at the Division Athletics Competition.
Overall, HT & St. Mary’s came fifth in the Scoresby District which is a a credit to everyone’s hard work.
Overall, Mr. D was very proud of the HT team in their wonderful efforts and particularly the outstanding encouragement they displayed towards both HT students and other competitors.
Year 4 Camp
This week the year 4’s went on a sunny and hot camp to ADANAC which is located in Yarra Junction in Victoria. ADANAC has lots of wonderful activities for the students to enjoy including the giant waterslide, trampolines, canoeing on the lake, flying fox, hut building, volleyball and a low ropes course.
ADANAC is suitable for all ages and provides yummy meals for all. At camp the year four students got to enjoy ice-cream, burgers, hot jam donuts, cake and pizza as well as cereal, toast, fruit and salad. At night time the students got to go on a night walk as well as toasting some marshmallows around a campfire.
Overall, the year 4 camp sounded like so much fun and I bet they got the students had a great night sleep when they got home.
Here are a few pics from the Year 4 camp…..
School Athletics Day
Last Thursday, (4th of March) all students in years 3 to 6 attended Ringwood Athletics track participate in our school athletics day. This yearly event is an opportunity for students to learn and participate in a range of track and field events and the results are used to guide Mr. D (Our Sports Teacher) in selecting a school team to represent Holy Trinity and St. Mary’s at the District Athletics event next term. Some of the different events that the students participated in were discus, shot put, hurdles, high jump, long jump and triple jump as well as a range of running events such as the 100 metre sprint, 200 metre sprint and 800 metre run. Students competed against other students in their year level and the points they earned from each event contributed to overall house score. After such a big day a big congratulations needs to go out to all our wonderful athletes and to Bunarong House (Gold) for winning the house trophy.
A big thank you must go to all the wonderful parents who gave up their time to help with the running of the day and for the staff with helping to make the day so smooth for everyone. Well done to Mr. D and Mrs Patmore for organizing the school athletics day and to Lara for helping Mrs. Patmore with scoring.
Here are some photos that were take in on the day.
Friday’s School Assembly (6 March)
Hi everyone,
Here is Friday’s school assembly. During our assembly we hear from some of our year 2 students who gave us a good reminder of making sure we show respect for our school by putting rubbish in the red wheelie bins. We also heard from our sports leaders who will be starting some sports clubs during lunchtimes over the next few weeks as well as recapping our fabulous athletics day (unfortunately this part was not recorded). Congratulations to all our wonderful ‘Student of the Week’ and TORCH award winners who displayed so many great values that we try to use at school.
We are hoping to do a live streaming of our next Friday assembly in 2 weeks time so please keep an eye out for the link to this assembly via our school newsletter, Operoo and our school blog.
A big thank you to Rebecca and Mya for your wonderful photography and video work during Friendship Groups and at our assembly.
Lego Engineering Lessons
This term in Digitech the students in years 3 and 4 have been participating in our Lego Engineering Program. The program helps to develop the students’ skills and knowledge in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) whilst building a variety of models such as a catapult, racing car, pantograph and carousel. During these lessons we learn about some of the different forces that help these machines work and students work with a partner to follow a series of instructions in order to build the model. We also look for ways to innovate our designs to help them to go faster, safer or work with greater accuracy.
These sessions will continue throughout this year with the students in years 5 and 6 participating in the program next term.
Here are some pictures of our students working during our Lego Engineering lessons.
District Swimming 2021
Yesterday (25th of February) 19 students from the years 4-6 went to Kilsyth Centenary Pool to compete in the Knox District Interschool Swimming championships.
Each Tuesday and Thursday morning since the beginning of term students went to Knox Leisureworks pool to tryout and practice our swimming so we were ready to compete.
Overall, it was an excellent result with Holy Trinity and St. Mary’s getting third place. Everyone swam amazingly and displayed great sportsmanship to the other schools. 18 of our students did such a good job that they will move onto the next level of competition – Division Swimming that will take place on 3rd of March.
Thanks to Mr D, Mrs Rickard and the parents who helped set up and supported all the swimmers.
These were the Final Results for all the students
Minecraft Club
Ever since our Year 6 Digitech leaders began their leadership roles they have really wanted to organise a Minecraft Club for the students in our school. Unfortunately, due to COVID we have been unable to conduct our Minecraft Club until this week.
Some students in Years 2, 3 and 4 have been given the opportunity to participate in our Minecraft Club where they are learning to use a variety of the tools and skills used in this program. This club takes place during lunchtimes on Wednesdays and Fridays. Our Minecraft Club will continue until the end of the year.
Next year we are hoping to continue our Minecraft Club with our new Digitech leaders as well as to begin a Minecraft Club with a new set of students.
A big thank you to our Year 6 Digitech leaders for all of their efforts in helping to get this club up and running for our students.
Here are a few of our students in action during a recent Minecraft Club session.
4 Blue’s Amazing Narratives!
Eucharist – Chalice & Host Activity
Last week the Grade 3 students got creative for their Eucharist activity. They were asked to create a 3D chalice and host using what they could find around their house. The Grade 3’s could use items they already had available or could create their own using anything they liked including, cloths, leaves, dry pasta, playdough, paper, etc.
Mrs Wahrenberger and Miss McGing were so proud of the effort that was put in and wanted to share some of these creations with everyone.
