Google Meet Timetable

Google Meet Timetable

Hi everyone. With the first week of our home learning almost completed here is our Google Meet timetable for everyone to refer to for Week 2. Google Meet is our videoing platform for students to connect with their teachers and classmates.

Try to remember the following guidelines each time you participate in a Google Meet session …..

  1. Suitable clothing.
  2. Suitable backdrop. Open learning space (not in your bedroom) and ‘interruption free’ during the session.
  3. Be on time. Open up the Google Meet link and have everything ready 10 minutes beforehand.
  4. Microphone on mute. Turn this on red unless you are speaking.
  5. Keep our Digitech Rules eg. think before you post (or speak).

Please note that whilst we try to keep to these times as much as possible that our Google Meet timetable is subject to change. Any changes to the timetable will automatically update on this page once you have refreshed the blog page. This timetable can always be accessed via the Student Portal (just look under the Announcement section of this webpage).

Photos of our first day of Learning from Home

Hi everyone,

One day down without hopefully too many meltdowns or technical issues. Thankfully, we all survived and we lived to share the story. Thanks to all the families who shared their photos from during the day. If only we could have a similar document for how the parents looked at the end of the day. …..

Feel free to keep sending your photos in to me at smullavey@htws.catholic.edu.au and I will update this document as they come through.

Cheers and keep up the great work!

Home Learning is ‘up and running’

Home Learning is ‘up and running’

Hi everyone,

Welcome to term 2 – a completely new way of learning from outside the four walls of the school classroom. Today is a ‘settling in’ day like most of us would normally do for a new term. Our parents (who are also our first teachers) may need some guidance during the day as many of them have not been to primary school since the dinosaurs roamed the Earth (well maybe not that long).

Today, here is a simple activity for all parents to try to do sometime during today’s day of learning. I would like parents to take a picture of their child/ren completing some of their learning. It may be of them working at a desk, practising some meditation skills, watching a video that their teacher has shared with them or having a brain break doing one of Mrs. Harrison’s fantastic PE exercises.

I then would like parents to send this photo to their class teacher as a quick way of touching base with them. Class teachers may not necessarily reply to these emails as they will be teaching throughout the day but it is a nice way to show them that your child is engaged in our home learning program. I would love to put some of these photos onto the school blog as well so if you give permission for me to post a photo of your child/ren please CC me in on the email to the class teacher. My email address is smullavey@htws.catholic.edu.au

Please also note that the Prep to Year 2 online program will begin after the students have made their way through the pack that was provided at the end of last term.

Below is a list of all teaching staff’s email addresses for your reference.

Cheers and have a great day with your beautiful families.

Google Hangouts (Meet)

Google Hangouts (Meet)

Yesterday, my class (4 Blue) were lucky enough to try out Google Hangouts (Meet). Google Hangouts is a bit like Skype or FaceTime which is connected to our school Google accounts and is a way to chat to others via video.  The reason we tried this is this is a way that teachers are going to connect with the students in their class if the school needs to close and we learn from home.

Yesterday Mrs Jamieson invited different students from 4 Blue to join as well as Mr. Mullavey to test out how well this program works. My class was really excited to try it and and thought it was cool how we were still able to connect with others even if we were not all in the same room together.

Here is a photo of us during our Hangout session yesterday……

🏊 DISTRICT SWIMMING 2020 🏊

🏊 DISTRICT SWIMMING 2020 🏊

On Friday 21st February some students from years 3 to 6 were selected to represent HT & St. Mary’s at Kilsyth Centenary Pool to compete in the District Swimming competition.

This event was the culmination of many weeks of hard work where the students have been going to swimming training every Tuesday morning at 7.30 am at Knox Leisureworks.

The competition was really intense with lots of students getting very nervous before their races. Many of the students did well and it was amazing how well everyone did despite feeling so nervous.

After all the freestyle, breastroke, backstroke and butterfly events we participated in relay events which our school did really well at. Some of the swimmers were lucky enough to make it through to Divisional Competition which will take place on Wednesday 4th of March.

Well done to Tyrone who was rewarded for all of his hard work by earning the Age Group Champion for 12 year old boys.

Overall HT & St. Mary’s came first for the 10th time in a row with 105 points!

Congrats to everyone who represented HT at the District Swimming.

Here are some photos of us in action…..

Sandpit Helpers

Sandpit Helpers

At recess and lunchtime many students like to play in our sandpit. We were lucky enough to have some new toys purchased over the school holidays including new buckets, spades and sifters.  All the students who choose to play in the sandpit really enjoy using these new toys.

At the end of each lunchtime all the students who play in the sandpit should help to pack away the sand toys into the containers so that the sandpit is tidy for the next day. This is the way that we like to pack up our sandpit.

Today when the bell rang some of the students who were playing in the sandpit forgot to pack up the sand toys. Fortunately,  these wonderful students stayed behind to help pack up.

Thank you to Tyler, Rafael, Xavier and Randolph for helping to keep our school tidy.

Four Square Competition for the School of the Air

Four Square Competition for the School of the Air

On Thursday the 28th of November Ashley, Lara and Blake.D held a 4 square competition to raise money for the kids in the School of the Air. Ash wanted to do the fundraiser for the school of the air because there are lots of kids that are a part of the school but they don’t get to go to a physical school and experience all the fun things we get to do. Ash and Lara were the first people to do a fundraiser for the school of the air. The competition ended up raising $87 in total which is a lot of money that can be used to help buy new learning resources for these kids.

The final winners were Bradley 1st place, Macca 2nd place and Tej 3rd place. Spencer earned the MVP (Most Valuable Player during the competition and Cara got an award for Team player.

Well done to Ashley, Lara and Blake D for all of your hard work with organising this competition (even organising some trophies).

Lego Presentations

Lego Presentations

As we are reaching the end of the school year so too are we reaching the end of our school Lego Engineers program for 2019. The students from years 3 to 6 have participated in this program to develop their skills and thinking based around the areas of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). The students have a built a variety of different models from catapults to self flipping cars and moonwalking robots. Their skills and knowledge has developed massively in the two years I have been teaching this program and I thank all the students for their enthusiasm during Lego sessions throughout the year.

Over the last few weeks all classes from Years 3 to 6 have participated in a final Lego presentation session where they got to rebuild one of the Lego models taught throughout this year. In addition, each group created a presentation using the Explain Everything app where they showed how their model worked including explaining the forces used to help make the model function efficiently. The students from the prep to year 3 classes were lucky enough to view these presentations and they gave the groups a mark based on the following rubric.

Overall, the presentations were very positive and demonstrated how much the students had learned. Here are a few pictures of these presentations …….

Swimming Program

Swimming Program

On Wednesday the 6th of November the students in Prep to Year 4 began travelling to Knox Leisureworks for our yearly swimming program. This program took place for 8 days which finished today. In the first week we did the lessons practising swimming strokes, floating and survival. On each Thursdays all student brought in their PJs. We had to do our swimming in these clothes as well as learning how to survive in the water if we were to fall in with our clothes on.

Today (Friday) is everyone’s favourite day because it is Fun Friday. We got to make whirlpools with the others in our group, did a water scribble and go on the water slide too. It was so much fun.

Overall, we had so much fun in the swimming program and will be sad not to do it next year when we are go into Year 5.

Regional Hoop Time

Regional Hoop Time

On Wednesday the 16th of October two teams from year 4 went to the State Basketball Stadium to represent Holy Trinity at the Regional Hoop Time Competition.

Our team (the Tigers) played played 4 pool games where we won 3 games and lost 1 by just one point. Our other HT team (the Titans) won 2 games and lost 2 in their pool. Both teams played well enough in their pool games to make it to the finals.

In the qualifying finals the Tigers had a really tight game. The game went into overtime and one free throw with just 15 seconds to go sealed the game for the other team in a devastating way for the HT Tigers as they just lost. In the other final the Titans also played really well but unfortunately lost by a bigger margin.

Overall, both teams played really well representing HT but ultimately got knocked out. Hopefully they will be back next year.

3/4 Cricket Blast

3/4 Cricket Blast

On Wednesday the 16th of October all the students in Year 3 and 4 went to Eastern Lions oval on Lewis Road to participate in the Woolworths Cricket Blast day. Before we competed Mrs. Harrison had already put us into teams and we had been practising at school with cricket players who were running a clinic during PE sessions.

During the day we began with everyone participating in a cricket clinic where we practised the main skills of fielding, batting and bowling. After this we competed against other schools in a game. Overall each team played 3 games.

My favourite part of the day was after every game where we got to use the Woolworths smoothie maker.

Overall, the 3/4 Cricket Blast was a really fun day.
