Our day out at the Grand Prix
Today (Friday 23 March) ten students from the 5/6 level were lucky enough to have the opportunity to go to the grand prix for a day. Whilst we were there we focused on learning about STEM [Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths]. We got to look at Formula 1 cars and saw how they work. There was a VR station that had different modes and there was a robot that danced to music. We saw a lot of drones and we got to race ozobots. While we were waiting for the race to start we saw some airplanes that did loops and cool tricks overhead. We learnt lots about engineering and how a car works and most importantly we had lots of fun. We thank Mr. Natoli and Mr. B for giving us the opportunity to go to such a wonderful day.
Here we are in action …..
HT’s First Aid Day
On Wednesday the 21st of March the whole school participated in a First Aid Day. The sessions involved us learning about helping other’s with their health though calling triple 0 in an emergency, putting an injured person in the recovery position and doing chest compressions if they are seriously hurt. We were lucky enough to participate in this day because we are learning about our wellbeing and looking after our bodies. This is some of the students in action …….

Friday Fitness Fun!
For the last 3 weeks, we have enjoyed moving to different groups to participate in Fun Fitness. Each group gets to participate in a different sport. Keeping fit is really important and is a big part of our ‘Wellbeing’ unit this term. There are lots of different activities including gymnastics, bootcamp, volleyball, karate, and lots more. We have one more week left. Our last session is on Friday 16th.
I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching the Irish dancing group and have been extremely impressed with the effort put in. Here are some photos from last Friday.
Table Tennis Fun in 5/6
This year the 5/6’s are lucky enough to be able to play table tennis in the Great Space. The students in 5/6 D are having a ball in playing table tennis against each other at lunch time. We also sometimes get to play against the teachers. Maybe one day we can have a championship against the teachers. I bet the students would win!
Fun Fitness Friday
On Friday afternoons for the next 4 weeks all the students in HT will participate in the Friday fitness activities. Mrs. Whelan came around and asked everyone which sport they would like to participate in. Some activities available are bootcamp, volleyball, yoga, gymnastics, karate and many more. Here are some photos from Friday’s events …..
Welcome to 2018!
Welcome to a new school year of blogging at HT and St. Mary’s.
It is exciting to see everyone’s happy faces after a restful break. The students are very enthusiastic and ready to learn.
We welcome our Preps and other new students and hope you are settling into school well.
The site of our school blog has changed slightly this year. We encourage you to bookmark the following link to refer to on a regular basis.
Hopefully our school blog continues to provide you with lots of opportunities to gain an insight into the world of learning at Holy Trinity and St. Mary’s. We encourage you to contribute your thoughts to different posts and remember to only use first names and keep all comments positive.
This year the students will be contributing to our school blog on a much larger scale. It will be exciting to see life at HT and St. Mary’s through the eyes of our students.
Keep a look out for more posts to our school blog in the coming days and weeks.
Sign language in Italian
This year at Holy Trinity we have are now learning two languages. We are starting to learn sign language so we can communicate with others who are in the deaf community. We are still continuing Italian and actually learning to sign things while speaking Italian. It is really fun learning how to sign and speak Italian at the same time.

National Week of Deaf People
The National Week of Deaf People (NWDP) is a weeklong national celebration of Deaf individuals and the Deaf Australian community.
It is an opportunity for Deaf people to:
- Celebrate their community, language, culture and history
- Make the public aware of their local, state and national Deaf communities
- Recognise their achievements
This week our schools will be celebrating by:
- collecting donations via a coin trail competition – the winning class ,1/2O, was announced on Monday 23rd October!!!
- selling t-shirt cards for $1 all week
- hosting Loud Shirt day on Friday 27th October
Help us continue to advocate and work for the Deaf community!
Your donation to Deaf Australia shows governments, industry and service providers that Deaf people, their families, friends and organisations are committed to ‘building a better Australia for Deaf people’.

University of Melbourne Network Of Schools Seminar
Last Friday the Network of Schools team, Dave Mutimer, Aisling McGing, Sam Wahrenberger and I attended Seminar 7 of the project. We heard from keynote speaker Di Snowball on Spelling, Teri Campbell on High Impact strategies and at the end of the day we worked with other schools on our ‘feedback’ focus. On November 22 at our final seminar day for the year, we will be presenting to a panel. We will inform them about our journey so far with the Network of Schools. We are looking forward to presenting our ‘feedback’ journey so far.
eSafety Week
This week (September 4 to September 8) is eSafety week which means that we are reminded about always acting in a ‘cyber safe’ manner whenever we use the Internet. Here is a link to the eSmart website …. https://goo.gl/G2YaUK
During this week our ICT leaders shared their cyber safety tips on a video discussion platform called Flipgrid. Year 6 leaders in other catholic primary schools throughout Melbourne also shared their tips and I would encourage you to look at some of these to discuss as a family.

Art Show News
At the 2017 Art Show we will be sharing our whole school collaborative piece using the meditation rocks. After we read the lovely story, Only One You by Linda Kranz , which is full of wisdom on how to live a happy life, each student created their own unique Pebble fish. These will be installed in the Harmony Garden after the Art Show.
Tree Planting Day
On Friday the 11th of August, all the students at our school went to Lakewood Reserve for tree planting. There were people at the Lake from Knox Council who helped the students with planting the trees as part of the ‘one tree per child’ program. The children had lots of fun and learnt a lot about how to look after our environment.
