On Wednesday 24th of August and Tuesday the 6th of September the year 5 students represented Holy Trinity and St Mary’s in Interschool Sports for Volleyball. This competition took place at Boronia K-12 College and we played against teams from Knox Park, St Judes, Kent Park, Scoresby, Bayswater as well as Boronia K-12.

Our school had two teams play with one team consisting of all girls (Team 2) and one team being a mixed team (Team 1). Both teams played brilliantly in making it to the finals.

In the finals Team 1 won their match against Boronia K-12 but unfortunately Team 2 lost their match against Scoresby.

Overall, we had a couple of great days and everyone learnt so much about playing the game of Volleyball.

The Emmaus Production

Earlier this term the students in years 4 and 5 were lucky enough to attend the production of Anastasia at Monash University performed by the students of Emmaus Collage,

So many of our students were amazed by the costumes, the lights, the storyline. Overall most of us thought the Production was amazing and the cast were brilliant!

This is what a couple of our year 5 students thought ….

Alexa: The production was amazing they did so quick with the dressing and did really well with the singing/lines.

Ethan: Amazing, no mistakes, clean and auto was very good.

We thank Emmaus College for the opportunity to attend the Anastasia Production and many of us will aspire to perform in productions like this in the future.

5/6 Hoop Time

On Friday the 12th of August,  the 5/6’s went to Dandenong Stadium to represent Holy Trinity at the Hoop Time competition. During the day each team played at least four games and many won enough games to qualify for finals. Our All Star girls team made to the grand final but sadly they just lost by 2 points in overtime. This meant that they were able to make it through to the next level which is a fantastic achievement. The All Star boys made it to the finals as well but they lost in the semis against Kent Park.

Each of our Hoop Time teams had at least a win during the day and they were very excited about it. Everyone had a great time and represented our school with the usual pride in the Hoop Trinity uniform.

ICAS @ HT

ICAS @ HT

ICAS has begun and is well underway with students in years 3-6 completing the English assessment today and Writing and Digital Technologies last week.  The ICAS assessments will take place every Tuesday for the next 2 weeks. The assessments in the coming weeks will include Spelling Bee, Science and Mathematics. These are fantastic assessment opportunities which allow learners to challenge themselves and be recognised for their academic efforts.

NBL Players Come to HT!

NBL Players Come to HT!

On Wednesday the 10th of August, players from the South East Melbourne Phoenix NBL club came to HT. This visit was part of an RRRR incursion for the 5/6 students about managing emotions and feelings. The Phoenix players included Dane Pineau, Ryan Broekoff and Kyle Adnam who came to HT to talk to us about how they deal with the stresses of being professional basketballers as well as taking some time to play games with us on the basketball court. One of the highlights of the visit was that students could bring items for the players to sign. These items have become extra special now that they are autographed by famous NBL players and I’m sure the students will treasure forever.

Maths Board Games

On Monday, the Year 6’s began working in groups to create their own ‘maths related’ board game. We have been working together on these games during Maths sessions throughout week and tomorrow (Friday) we will get an opportunity to play some of these games in our class. Some of the games included Monopoly, Wordle and Calculate to the top.

Overall, making our own maths board games fun and we are looking forward to reviewing and playing these games with one another.

Last Thursday a team of 5/6 students were chosen to represent HT in football at Lewis Road Oval. We played three games. In the first game we played against Boronia K-12 where we won by about 6 goals. In the second game we played against Bayswater West where we played well but were beaten by about 30 points. In our final match we played against Scoresby and played a great game where we won by 45 points.

Overall, everyone had a lot of fun representing HT and wish we could have played more matches together.

Narrative Writing Groups

In Year 6 this term we have been focussing on developing our narrative writing skills. As we wrap up our narrative writing unit this week we had the opportunity to showcase our skills by writing a narrative as a group. Each group got a prompt and a story starter then as a group we worked together to compose a detailed narrative. Some of the topics we wrote about include a boot in a forest that miraculously took a step forward, a girl named Astrid who was holding an imaginary light and four friends who got stuck in a jungle with a portkey.

Overall, everyone has had lots of fun working in their groups and enjoyed the opportunity to combine our great ideas together.

On Thursday 16 June, two teams were chosen to represent Holy Trinity at T-Ball against other schools in the Scoresby District at Gilbert Park.  Team A had mainly Grade 6 students and Team B had mainly Grade 5 students. Team A won all of their games (3 out of 3) against Kent Park, Scoresby and the other HT team and this meant that they will go to the next level of competition. Team B also played well winning 2 out of their 3 games against Kent Park and Scoresby and only losing to Team A.

Overall, both Holy Trinity T-Ball teams played really well and displayed the TORCH values throughout the day.

Last Thursday (16 th May), two teams of 5/6 students were chosen to represent HT & St. Mary’s at soccer. We all travelled to the Knox Park grounds by bus and each team played three games of soccer against the other schools.

In the boys games they scored 3 goals against Bayswater West, no goals in their match against St. Jude’s and 2 goals against Boronia K-12.

In the girls games they scored 1 goal against Bayswater West, no goals against St. Jude’s and 1 goal against Boronia K-12.

Overall, both teams played really well and represented our school with pride. Well done girls and boys!

Push Race Cars

In Science at the moment the Year 1 students are learning about the forces of push and pull. As part of this topic the students built a Lego car model that used an elastic band to power the car a bit like a wind-up toy. Our Year 1 students were lucky enough to build this model with the Year 6 students and then they got to test and race them against other students in the class.

Overall, the students learnt a lot about how you can power a car without needing a motor to get it to work just like the forces of push and pull.

Downball

On Friday the 27th of May, the 3/4’s and 5/6’s participated in a downball competition. The team from Downball Australia came to HT to teach us the game including giving us some expert tips and we all learned how to play officially play downball (old school edition).  It was a very fun day where we were able to have a epic grand final for each year level.

Congrats to the winners who were Brody, Sam, Joshua, Sean, Matthew, and Elliott.

District Cross Country

District Cross Country

On Wednesday, May 25,  a group of students from Years 3 to 6 were selected to represent HT and St. Mary’s at the District Cross Country around Knox Athletics Centre. These students were the ones that were in the top places from our school cross country races in March.

The students in Years 3 and 4 were required to run 2km and the students in Years 5 and 6 ran 3km. As always it was a tough event but HT & St. Mary’s performed very well.

Year 6 Confirmation

On Thursday (26th May) many of our year 6 students celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation at St. Jude’s Church.  The ceremony began with carrying into the church with a special lantern that we decorated at our ‘spirit’ day. This same lantern will also be used for Graduation. When it was time for each of the candidates to be confirmed we went up to Fr. Tony who placed some oil on our forehead as a symbol of our commitment to God as our sponsor placed their hand on our right shoulder. It was special to be able to celebrate such an important milestone in our Catholic journey with our families and classmates.

Confirmation Reflection Day

Last Friday, all the year 6 students went to St. Jude’s for our Reflection Day in preparation for making the Sacrament of Confirmation this week. It was a special day for us because we have been preparing to receive the sacrament throughout this year.  There were many different parts of the day including Fr. Mark talking to us about our chosen saints, working on our lanterns that we will use during the Confirmation ceremony and practising for the Confirmation Mass in St. Jude’s Church. We were even lucky enough to wear free dress as well as to have pizza for lunch.

Overall, our Reflection Day was fun and an important part of preparing ourselves for making the Sacrament of Confirmation this week.

Year 6 Lego Sessions

This term the year 6 students have been working really hard on some new LEGO projects. Last week we built a Street Sweeper and this week we are going to build a Light Aeroplane which sounds exciting. After we look  at the project and figure out how to do it, we work with a partner(s) to build the LEGO model. One of the most important parts of the lesson is when we get together on the floor to talk about how the model works and some of the improvements that can be made to make our model work even better. Often we showcase our models for the rest of the class to view but this is optional. Sometimes during our showcase sessions someone’s model may fall apart which can be quite funny but it also shows us that it is ok if something goes wrong. Overall, our Lego sessions have been really fun and I can’t wait for our next lesson!

District Athletics

District Athletics

On Tuesday 3 May students from years 4 to 6 were chosen to represent Holy Trinity at Scoresby District Athletics Carnival. The students chosen had done well at our school athletics event in March.

It was a really successful day with everyone not only doing their best but also setting a high standard in our behaviour and the way we conduct ourselves. Some special achievements included Mia and Nathan winning the age champion overall for their age groups and overall 25 students made it through to the next level at the Division Athletics which will take place in October.

Overall, HT came 3rd out of the 8 schools.

At the end of last term the Year 5 and 6 students were lucky enough to have visitors from Hand on Science to talk to us about electricity and light. These were two of the topics we learnt about during our term 1 Inquiry unit.

The students were able to participate in two separate sessions where in one session we learnt about electricity and the other we learnt about light.

During the electricity session we learnt how electricity works and how it can exist in different forms. During the light session we learnt about how light can travel through objects and how it reflects.

Overall, our science incursion was really educational but also a lot of fun.

5/6 Camp Update

Hi everyone,

We have all had a wonderful camp and we are currently enjoying our last morning before we depart Alexandra Adventure Resort at approximately 10.30 am. We plan to stop for lunch on our journey back and should arrive back at Holy Trinity before 3pm. You should be informed via Operoo prior to us arriving back at HT of more specific details.
