SRC – New School Uniform
This term our SRC (Student Representative Council) have been regularly meeting to work through what our new school uniform might look like in 2022 and beyond.
Over the past couple of weeks we shared some of our wonderful ideas including labelling our designs.
Some of ideas included introducing a tie, having a hoodie and creating a uniform that can be worn by both girls and boys and having just one uniform that is a bit more ‘sporty’ and can be worn on both PE and non PE days.
We would love you to add your thoughts about the below designs into the comment section of this post.
Here are some of the designs that our SRCs came up with …..
Taster Day at Mater Christi
Yesterday (18.5.21) all the year 4 and 5 girls went to Mater Christi in Belgrave for a taster day. A taster day is when students from primary school visit a secondary school to have some kind of experience of what it is like to go to high school. Some of the activities we had a chance to try were: Science, Monopoly and Sport. Monopoly was a bit different from the board game because we got to explore the different parts of the school and answer questions about these places.
What we did:
- – First we entered Mater Christi
- – Next we played Monopoly and explored the school
- – After that we had recess
- – Then we had P.E. We played Popcorn and Golden child
- – After we had Science ( it was my favourite )
- Next we got show bags that had; crayons and pencils.
We are very thankful to Mater Christi for the chance to experience what it is like to go to secondary school.
Here are some pictures taken from Mater Christi …..
We had an amazing time at Mater Christi. It was a lot of fun to have experience of High School.
Taster Day at St. Josephs
Yesterday (18/5/21) the students in years four and five had a Taster Day at secondary school. A Taster Day is an opportunity when primary students can experience what it is like at high school, as they are choosing which high school to go to. The boys were lucky enough to go to St. Joseph’s in Ferntree Gully and had heaps of fun completing activities.
There were 4 different activities were drama, science, music and sport. My group got to do drama first and I was very excited when I won the first two rounds of the first game. Afterwards, my group did science and wow …… that explosion was huge!!!! We were amazed by what science could do.
We also go to experience what a recess is like by having snack and brain food.
We are all very thankful to St. Joseph’s for the chance to be part of the secondary school taster day.
Here are some photos from our day at St. Joseph’s ……
Spoiling our Mums at HT for Mother’s Day
Last Friday (7th May) Holy Trinity celebrated Mother’s Day by having a Devonshire Tea and Mothers Day stall.
All the kids had a blast choosing out what their mums would like at the Mother’s Day stall and everybody loved the candles. In fact the candles sold out in the first 5 minutes!
The Devonshire Tea is a new part of our Mother’s day celebrations but one of the most fun things that we did. Scones with jam and cream were served together with a hot drink for the mums (and grandmothers) and a juice for the children and everyone commented about how nice the scones were. All the mums loved spending some extra time with their children and the kids loved showing their mum’s some of their learning at school.
Thank you to Mrs. Whelan for her fantastic cooking and to all the staff who helped to make this a special celebration for our wonderful mums.
Easter Picnic
At the end of last term, Holy Trinity and St. Mary’s had a very exciting Easter Picnic. It was a great opportunity for many of our families to return to our school for a community event for the first time since COVID. Lots of fun activities took place including a crazy hat parade, a ‘guess the number of cotton balls in the container’ and an Easter egg hunt. There was plenty of great food for us including a sausage sizzle, gelati truck, donuts as well as a few Easter eggs once we completed the Easter egg hunt. It was wonderful to see so many happy faces and it showed how much our community enjoys gathering for special events like this.
Thank you to our wonderful Parents’ Association who came up with this new event and for their hard work in putting the Easter Picnic together.
Here are a few photos from the Easter Picnic.
Market Fresh Fun
The Year 1/2s enjoyed an educational presentation and smorgasbord of seasonal fruit and vegetables provided by the Market Fresh Schools Program.
The presenters spoke about the importance of eating fresh fruit and vegetables as part of a balanced daily diet – and gave the kids the opportunity to taste and enjoy a variety of fresh produce.
We thank the farmers for working so hard to provide us with delicious and nutritious food to eat daily!

Friendship Groups
Every second Friday afternoon the students in our school gather together for Friendship Groups. Our Friendship Groups are formed from a mix of students in the different classes throughout the school. During Friendship Group activities we participate in a range of learning activities based around our TORCH values. Our school’s TORCH values are Tolerance, Optimism, Respect, Confidence and Honesty. Last week each group learnt about making paper plane and some students got to race their plane in the Community Space. Each Friendship Group learnt about the importance of being optimistic even if your plane was not chosen to race against the other groups and that it is important to show respect for others’ efforts with their paper planes.
Overall, Friendship Groups is really fun but it also is very important for all students at Holy Trinity and St. Mary’s in learning to display the TORCH values.
What Is Being A Grade 6 Leader Like?
Being a Grade 6 leader is something that most students look forward to throughout their years at primary school. One of the most exciting parts of being a year 6 leader is that we get to help the Prep students to settle into school as their buddy. We learn that even though we are their buddy we have a responsibility to help the Prep students to learn the school rules and to always try to use the TORCH values. The grade 6’s also help the Preps to find other students in their year level to play with especially on the playground. We spend time with our Prep buddies during special buddy sessions where the Prep and Year 6 classes get together to complete an activity or lesson. We also work with our Prep buddies during Friendship Groups.
Another big role with being a year 6 leader is doing our leadership roles. Some students are chosen to be a Friendship leader whilst others are an Environment, Learning or Arts leader and each position means that we work with a teacher on that chosen area in the school. I am looking forward to being the Liturgy leader this year because it is an important responsibility in a catholic school. It is a great responsibility being a Grade 6 leader and it is much more than just having a special jacket and wearing a leadership badge.
We hope that the year 6 leaders can help to set a great example for all the students at Holy Trinity in 2021.
Buddy Breakfast
Last week, the year 6’s welcomed the preps and their parents to the school community with a delicious buddy breakfast. Lots of people got to enjoy a yummy sausage in bread and the adults got some tasty coffee.
Buddy Breakfast is a great opportunity for everyone to welcome the preps and parents to our school community.
Here are all the Year 6’s and Preps with their buddies, friends and family.
Friendship Groups
Today (Friday November 20) all the students participated in Friendship Groups for the first time since March. Each Friendship Group consists of a mixture of students from Prep to Year 6. Together each group learns about a range of different topics centred around wellbeing as well as doing lots of fun activities. Today’s session involved learning about bullying and was in recognition of the National Day of Anti Bullying and Violence which took place when during remote learning. After learning about these themes each group got the opportunity to play with their frisbees on the oval and take them home to play with after this session.

Friendship Groups begin for 2020
Last Friday we had our first Friendship Groups session for 2020. Our Friendship Groups are formed from a mix of students from different classes throughout the school Our first session for this year was based on Tolerance which is one of our TORCH values. We gathered as a group and did a couple of activities like being given a piece of string and wrapping it around our finger while we talk about ourselves and when the string was fully wrapped around our finger we stopped so the next person could have a go. The session was mainly about getting to know each other because some of us were new to the group like the Preps or even some of the Grade 6s.

Transition Groups
If you were to visit Holy Trinity on a Friday afternoon at the moment you will find that the students are all mixed up into different groups and in different classrooms. The reason for this is because all students are participating in our school transition groups program. This program is designed to prepare the students for some of the changes they will encounter when they move into their classes for 2020. The students work together with different students and with a different class teacher to the one they are currently have. During transition groups the students participate in a range of discussions and activities designed to get them to think about the changes that will take place when they go into their new classes and to help them to see that change is a natural part of life. Our transition program takes place instead of Friendship groups over the next few Fridays.

Our School Garden 🌼🐞🌱
Recently at Holy Trinity the Environmental leaders have been work on weeding and replanting our veggie garden! Soon we will be able to harvest our lovely range of veggies and herbs. We will hopefully be cooking a wonderful dish in time for carols. Keep your eyes on the blog for more garden updates in the coming weeks!
Stay green thumbs. 🌱👍

Our New Veggie Gardens
Recently, our Environment leaders have been working with Miss Hiscox on our school’s veggie gardens. We drew maps of where we would like plant different fruits, veggies and flowers and then discussed what was the most suitable options. On Wednesday 18th of September we got together with some students from the Prep and grade three level to weed, prepare the soil and plant our new garden.
Here are a few pictures of us at work …..
TORCH Bearers of Term 2
This afternoon at assembly our TORCH bearers of the term were awarded to one special person in each level who displays each of our TORCH values. Our TORCH values of tolerance (T), optimism (O), respect (R), confidence (C) and honesty (H) are at the heart of what we teach at Holy Trinity and provide our students with practical examples of how to live out of school motto of ‘Love One Another’.
Congratulations to Owen (Prep), Tyler (1/2), Olivia (3/4) and Anneliese (5/6) for being such fantastic recipients of the TORCH Bearers for term 2.
Friendship Groups
Every second Friday afternoon the students move into their Friendship Groups(multi aged groups from Prep to year 6) to participate in an activity based around our TORCH values. Our TORCH values are Tolerance, Optimism, Respect, Confidence and Honesty. Our lesson recently was based around Optimism where students created their own rose coloured glasses. The aim of this activity was for students to look at different events with ‘rose coloured glasses’ in order to see the bright side of things.

Torch bearers and SRC
This afternoon as part of our final assembly for the term we presented the SRC (Student Representative Council) members of each class and the TORCH bearers of term 1 2019. All candidates for the SRC were required to write a letter saying why they think they would make a good SRC member to represent their class. The TORCH bearer of the term is a special award given to students who consistently display all the TORCH values (not just during this term but throughout their school lives. Congratulations to all our SRC members for 2019 and to our TORCH bearers for term 1.
