Natale at HT – Christmas at HT filming in week 10

Natale at HT – Christmas at HT filming in week 10

Dear parents

In light of our school production being cancelled I thought that it would be great if the students could still participate in a performance. This term the students have been working on a christmas performance that will be filmed and streamed to families. Students are encouraged to come to school on their designated filming day dressed up in Christmas colours or costume. Students can either come to school dressed in their chosen outfit or if they prefer they can wear their school uniform and bring their items in a clearly marked bag to change into at their designated class filming time. It would be preferred if students wear school shoes or runners as well. There is no need to buy anything new for the filming – whatever you already have at home is perfectly fine. For example: xmas tshirt, red top, green top, christmas headband, christmas hat etc… Some students have discussed with me that they already have a Christmas costume for example: Christmas onesies, Elf costume, Santa costume, reindeer costume, angel costume etc.. so they are more than welcome to wear these.

Each grade will be assigned a time to be filmed throughout the day. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me via email – jformichelli@htws.catholic.edu.au

Looking forward to showcasing the students Christmas performances!

ITALIAN FAMILY CHALLENGE!!

ITALIAN FAMILY CHALLENGE!!

La bandiera d’Italia: What does the Italian flag look like?

The Italian Flag is a vertical tricolour flag with 3 equally sized bands. It has 3 colours; green (left), white (centre) and red (right). In Italian it is called il tricolore – verde, bianco e rosso. Each colour has its own meaning:

verde – speranza (hope)
bianco – fede (faith)
rosso – carita`(charity)

Your challenge is to create your own Italian flag using objects from around your house. The family with the most creative Italian flag will win a special prize from Signora Formichelli.

This is what the Italian flag looks like.

This is an example of some objects that were used from around the house to create the Italian flag.

Once you have created your ‘bandiera’ please email a photo of it to me – jformichelli@htws.catholic.edu.au

I can’t wait to see each families flags!

Buona fortuna! Good luck and have fun creating!!

Italian poetry/drama competition

Italian poetry/drama competition

On Wednesday 20th November a team of 14 students represented Holy Trinity in an Italian poetry/drama competition at St John the Baptist Primary School in Ferntree Gully. The students had to learn an Italian poem off by heart and present it to an audience using correct pronunciation, expression and drama skills. The students were all fantastic and I couldn’t be more proud of each and every one of them! The student with the highest score for HT was Isabella Bonato and the encouragement award was presented to Chloe Hall. Overall the team placed 3rd. A brilliant effort!

Special Italian/Performing Arts Prep afternoon

On Monday 16th September the Preps shared some of their learning with family and friends. It was a fun afternoon with lots of Italian singing, dancing and and making thumb puppets. It was a great opportunity for the students to showcase some of the things they have been learning in Italian. Viva L’Italiano!!

Special music ensemble groups!

Special music ensemble groups!

In Italian/Performing Arts the grade 5/6 students have been learning to play the ukulele. Some of the students have been invited to participate in a special ukulele ensemble group. Over the coming weeks they will be working with Isabella Formichelli – she is an instrumental music teacher, singer song writer and musician – and learning a new song to play on the ukulele for a performance. The students were so excited to start the workshops and are looking forward to performing for an audience!

Check out some photos of their first workshop:

It has been a very busy term in Italian/Performing Arts lessons! The Preps read a story about Pinocchio and learnt a song and dance. The grade 1/2 students learnt about beat, rhythm and dynamics in music. The grade 3/4 students had lots of fun learning how to play coloured musical tubes called Boomwhackers and the grade 5/6 students were introduced to the ukulele. Check out the photos below:
