It has been a very busy term in Italian/Performing Arts lessons! The Preps read a story about Pinocchio and learnt a song and dance. The grade 1/2 students learnt about beat, rhythm and dynamics in music. The grade 3/4 students had lots of fun learning how to play coloured musical tubes called Boomwhackers and the grade 5/6 students were introduced to the ukulele. Check out the photos below:
We have had a great start to our learning in the new Italian/Performing Arts space. This week the grade 3/4 students listened to a story in Italian about Easter called Fra Martino. They learnt to play the Fra Martino song on the glockenspiels – they did a fabulous job! Fantastico!

There will be some changes to the way languages will be offered at our school in 2018. The key changes the children will experience include:
An expected learning outcome will be made clear for students – to be able to actively remember and use functional words and simple phrases.
They will share strategies with each other to help the whole class achieve the expected learning outcome.
Students will be encouraged to use the vocabulary they have learnt to speak to each other in class in Italian.
We will continue to adopt the CLIL approach: Content and Language Integrated Learning, which combines teaching content from a curriculum area with the explicit teaching of the Italian language. We will once again do this through the Performing Arts Curriculum. We are very excited about this unique integrated approach to the learning of a language at Holy Trinity.
It is an innovative approach to the teaching, learning and assessment of Italian in our school.

This term all grades have been learning about Carnevale time in Italy. The Preps & 1/2 classes have been learning about Arlecchino and his costume of many colours, the 3/4 classes have been learning an Italian tarantella dance and the 5/6 students have been learning about La Commedia dell’Arte – the Comedy of the Arts and creating ‘lazzi’ – which are short comedy skits. The students have been creating their ‘lazzi’ to music.
We are looking forward to our Carnevale themed Italian day and Holy Trinity Feast Day celebrations on Friday 9th June.
It has been a great start to the new year. The students have been enthusiastic and engaged in their learning. Our new Preps have made a great start to learning Italian. We have been learning some new songs, how to introduce ourselves and how to say how we are feeling in Italian. They have also been learning a new hip hop dance to a song called Facciamo Banz.

What a fun start to term 4!! The grade 3-6 students had a great time playing a modified Italian version of the TV show The Big Music Quiz. The students had fun working in groups and trying to work out the Italian versions of popular songs from the radio. The grade 1/2 students are learning about the days of the week and played instruments to the beat of an Italian song about the days of the week. The students had fun playing the maracas, egg shakers and bells. The Prep students learnt how to say their names in Italian and made a poster about it.
All in all a great start to term 4!
