(: Year 6 Safety Swimming Day :)

(: Year 6 Safety Swimming Day :)

Today the year 6’s participated in a ‘Safety around Water’ program at Knox Leisureworks to boost their knowledge and confidence about water safety. During this program we accomplished a series of activities including throw and pull in rescue, throw rescue, 25 metre freestyle and 25 meter any stroke. We also had to tread water for 2.30 minutes and then float for another 5 minutes. The best part of the day was at the end of the session when everyone went on the water slide. Today everyone show confidence, respect and we all tried to do the best we could.

Great job grade 6’s!

Lego in the 3/4 Level

Lego in the 3/4 Level

As we move towards the end of the year we are still working hard in Digitech building various Lego models. It has been a really enjoyable program that the students have learnt a lot of skills particularly in the area of STEM. Recently, we built a Ballista and a 90 degree Conveyor Belt. They have been tough design to build and required quite a bit of teamwork. We learnt about how belt transmission and elastic energy works.

Swimming at HT

Over the last two weeks (November 7 to November 16) the Preps to Year 4s have been participating in swimming lessons at Knox Leisureworks. The students have been travelling to the pool each day by bus and the lessons last for 45 minutes. They are learning to do lots of cool ways of swimming,  The students come to school each day with their bathers underneath their school uniform so they can be all ready to swim when they get to pool. The last couple of days the students have had to wear their pyjamas in the pool which is pretty cool. Here are some of the students in action …..

5/6 Chance and Data Day

5/6 Chance and Data Day

On Friday November 9, the 5/6 students participated in Chance and Data day. It was an opportunity for each of us to dress up like we were going to the races and lots of us really got into the theme of the day. The students participated in a series of mathematical activities to get a better understanding of chance and data including probability with a die, percentages with the hmmmmmm game and odds with picking cards. They also learned a little bit of the history of the Melbourne Cup and watched a couple horse races. We all seemed to have lots of fun as well as learning a thing or two.

The wheels are in motion. A group of clever nimble fingered students are busy ‘yarning’ over their crochet and knitting pieces as we prepare to yarn bomb the bike. Hopefully we have a new group of students starting up next week. Keep your eyes on the vintage bike in the great space 👀
