Harmony Day

Harmony Day

We are one but we are many……….

We celebrated Harmony Day dressed in Orange and in our cultural outfits. We investigated where our families come from around the world and listened to music from other cultures.

Staff managed to celebrate by having a feast of flavours from their own cultures for a delicious morning tea.

Storybox incursion

Storybox incursion

To consolidate their learning of “Then and Now”, Grade 1/2 s had the opportunity to participate in an incursion from “Storybox”. They were so eager and attentive much to the admiration from the teachers  and learnt how times have changed, clothes they wore, the games they played and the gadgets and the gimmicks they used. The best discovery was the bedpan which they thought was a mixing bowl!!!!!!

Predicting before Experimenting.

Predicting before Experimenting.

Today 1/2 s gathered together learning how different materials can be combined, including by mixing, for a particular purpose. They discussed similarities and differences between mixtures, explained why they thought different mixtures created different outcomes and also brainstormed what they already know about mixtures and their uses. The best part was predicting the outcomes before the experiments and some getting their predictions right! Definitely some future scientists in the making!!!!!!

Is the glass half full or half empty?

Is the glass half full or half empty?

Both Prep Blue and Prep Yellow classes( Prep Green!!!!) had a hands on Maths experience learning about Volume. Everyone had a turn to measure water into different containers and identify which ones were empty, half empty/half full and full.  There were few steady hands and not so steady hands and lots of little helpers to clean up the mess.

Prep Blue Palaeontologists

This week Prep Blue is learning about the unit “length” for Maths. So they spent the afternoon today being  palaeontologists looking for dinosaur fossils around the room(oh yeah! we found lots!!!!). They searched, they measured them using their fossil rulers, recorded them on a sheet and of course coloured them at the end.

Living or Non-living?

Living or Non-living?

Prep Blue enjoyed the brief sunshine today looking for living and non-living things.  Their task was to find them and stand next to them. They found living things as some stood next to trees, leaves, their teacher and one even got so lucky standing next to her sister! Talk about perfect timing!

They found non-living things as some stood next to the play equipment, bench, poles and even a bin! Some were even standing on rocks! Then we celebrated because we nailed it!
